Blending in

For the introverted, blending in is a defense mechanism. But it’s a lot like holding your breath. Every now and again you need to exhale. There are good and bad ways it plays out. There is craftsmanship, music, writing and humor. All kinds of positive performances we use to selectively reveal our souls. The trick is to develop these safety valves. Or else the exhale plays itself out in road rage, tantrums and drunken scenes. The good ways require vulnerability, which does not come easily for a lot of people. Under the exterior of a lot of jerks there is an insecure poet. Just listen to the creativity of their profanity. In the end the question is, do you want to learn to breathe easily or not? Who would you rather battle with, yourself or the world?
